Mexico Children's Ministry

Mexico Children’s Ministry -

The Mexico Children’s Ministry started back in 1995. The idea is to take empty tissue cores, fill them with ten pieces of hard wrapped candy and cover them with Christmas paper. We then deliver the “candy rolls” to underprivileged children down in Mexico (all the way down to Monterrey). We accomplish this by delivering the “candy rolls” to our long time Missionary Partners (the Three Crosses Church) in Alamo, Texas. They in turn deliver the “candy rolls” to some 140 churches across the border that make the actual delivery to the children.

In 1995 the MUMC produced some 300 “candy rolls”. In 2017 we delivered 19,000 (11,500 from MUMC and 7,500 fromeight other local partners (Rotary Club of Lake Conroe, Live Oak Nursing Home, Montgomery High School, Willis High School, Edward Jones, The Mansions Nursing Home, Brookdale Champions Nursing Home and Guardian Angles). Our goal for 2018 is to deliver 20,000 “candy rolls”

Some major players from MUMC make “candy rolls” in their home the year round. Others pick up candy (in Lufkin) and deliver “candy rolls” to the border.

Our annual MUMC “candy roll” stuffing party is usually held in late November. We had 115 volunteers help in 2017.
